Cow's milk is around 88% water. Not quite as much as a glass of water, but pretty close at the end of a twelve glass day. One study showed that milk proteins could reduce uric acid levels, another that dairy products lowered the risk of getting gout.

Uricinex boasts an all-natural composition with no side effects. From a partial list of ingredients on the company's website, the main ingredients are derived from Yucca (a plant), Artichokes, Turmeric (a member of the ginger family), and Sylmarin (Milk Thistle). These ingredients are indeed natural. However the complete list of ingredients is not available for review. As for the side effects, research into similar products shows that a very small percentage of users (one half of 1%) have manor upset stomach symptoms. They are told to take the supplements with a meal to alleviate this problem. Again, this has not been reported for Uricinex, but for similar products on the market. The number of affected people is so small and not directly attributed to Uricinex use that we can believe the claim.

It's best to eat the cherries or drink the cherry juice between meals. So why do cherries work for some people with gout? Because gout destroys the collagen that is needed to form connective tissue and cherries stop that destruction. Cherries also neutralize uric acid and have anti-inflammatory properties.

Water dilutes uric acid, an excess of which in the body is often, but not always, the immediate cause of gout. Diluted uric acid is more likely to be expelled from the body. If it is, the body's level of uric acid falls. And if uric acid levels fall to the clinical target of 6mg/dL in men, slightly less in women, the troublesome MSU crystals in the joints may dissolve, thus relieving a gout attack and preventing a recurrent one.

Gout is a form of arthritis caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood, tissues, and urine. The uric acid can form crystals which collect in joints such as the big toe. In fact, your big toe can become so painful and swollen that even the weight of a bedsheet can be agonizing.

If gout isn't properly controlled, it can cause kidney stones and even more serious kidney disease. Gout is also associated with high blood pressure, diabetes, and atherosclerosis.

People who suffer from gout know that they must drink a lot of water every day. There are two reasons why this is so important in gout treatment.

Almost 90% of gout victims are men over thirty years old. But women can also suffer from gout, especially if they take certain medications such as blood pressure drugs. Most women who suffer from gout are 60 years or older.

Gout symptoms occur in three phases. The first phase refers to the sudden onset of a joint pain, especially in the big toe, that lasts more than 5 days, going in some cases up to 10 days or even more. The second period is believed to be a period with no symptoms or attacks. This is the period between episodes. The third phase refers to the untreated cases of gout. In this last phase persistent symptoms develop. During this phase episodes occur more often and cause severe pain.

So you may want to discuss with your doctor if an alternative approach might work for you. An approach without the toxic side effects of gout drugs. One dietary approach is simply to eat cherries. In the 1950s, Dr. Ludwig Blau discovered that he could keep his gout away by eating a minimum of 6 cherries a day. It helped his crippling gout so much that he was actually able to get out of his wheelchair and start walking again.

Colchicine is also used because it eases the pain cause by gout. The problem with this medicine it's its side effects that can not be tolerated by any patient. Its side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.

Some high-purine foods are meats, especially organ meats, gravies, herring, mussels, sardines, fish, and alcohol. At least one study suggests that high-purine foods such as beans, peas, mushrooms, spinach and cauliflower do not make gout worse. But you should consult your doctor for the latest information and recommendations.

Hence the exhortations for gout sufferers to drink water. At least 8 - 12 x 8fl.oz glasses a day, perhaps more. Twelve glasses of water is about twice the recommended daily amount for healthy people. Some people would find this daunting. But it doesn't all have to be "pure" water.

Uricinex claims to reduce, and sometimes completely eliminate pain and swelling caused by gout. It does this thanks to a proprietary blend that reduces the level of Uric Acid. Micronutra, the makers of Uricinex, claims that this is all achieved naturally, without the side effects of prescription drugs. In addition, Urinex touts a high level of success, shown in an independent clinical study.

Since one of the objectives of drinking water is to raise body pH use pH test strips or litmus paper to discover and monitor your pH. Type "pH test strips" or "pH test stix" into an Internet search box to find online suppliers. Make sure you follow the leaflet's instructions, and monitor results by looking for trend changes over time. One test doesn't cut it.

Juices count too and are helpful for gout sufferers if they are made from fruits with high amounts of flavonoid antioxidants. Cherry juice for gout is the most widely touted. But berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries are also very high in flavonoid antioxidants and contain useful amounts of vitamin C, which some studies have shown can reduce uric acid levels.

Sufferers from gout, a debilitating and painful condition, often take several prescription medicines to combat this disease. These medications often leave patients with side effects that include impaired liver functions. Many of those afflicted by gout turn to natural supplements to replace/enhance their prescription treatments. Uricinex is one of the most popular of these natural supplements.

Any drink with alcohol is out. Finally don't forget those foods which are laden with water. The highest water content foods are surprise, surprise, watermelons and tomatoes. Both contain over 90% water. Watermelons are an alkaline food, but be aware that tomatoes may be low pH (i.e. acidic) and this makes eating them a source of debate among those who discuss the fine points of a gout diet. And eat soups and stews - it's water again.

There are other changes you can make to your diet, too. For example, eating a cup of strawberries may help to control gout. You should also drink plenty of water to help flush the uric acid out of your body. Six to eight 8-ounce glasses a day is probably best.

Gout is a problem that definitely needs treatment. Many ways of easing the pain or avoiding the severe attacks are known. Doctors recommend the patients in most of the cases good rest and to increase the amount of fluids that they drink. This is recommended for the easy forms of gout. Acute gout has to be treated with medicine therapy in order to decrease the pain and inflammations in the joints. The drugs usually prescribed for acute gout are non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as indomethacin, ketoprofen, oxaprozin, diclofenac, ibuprofen and others.

Corticosteroids are also used but not as often as NSAIDs or colchicine because they do not have the same effect. Chronic gout is usually treated with xanthine oxidase inhibitors or uricosuric agents that help the kidneys to eliminate the excess of uric acid produced in the body.

You should always consult a doctor for treatment of gout. But some of the drugs used for gout - such as allopurinol, colchicine, indomethacin, and prednisone - can cause serious side effects.

All these symptoms might be a cause of an unhealthy diet or even the cause of too much alcohol drinking. Beside these factors that may lead to gout we also need to mention that gout may occur after a surgical intervention, after a sudden and severe illness or after chemotherapy. An injury to a joint might also lead to development of gout.

In the beginning of the disease rare episodes are happening. In that phase episodes do not last a long period of time. More than that after an episode everything seems to be going back to normal and between episodes no symptoms occur. It is recommended for the disease to be treated with medication in order to prevent the more often occurrence of these episodes. If gout is not treated the episodes might last longer and might occur more often too. The repeating episodes might lead to a damage of the affected joints, causing limited mobility after any attack.

He discovered his "cherry cure" by accident. One day, he ate a large bowl of cherries and the next day, his foot pain was gone. He found that as long as he ate the cherries every day, his gout was controlled.

Losing excess weight may also reduce uric acid levels, but it must be done gradually and under a doctor's supervision. Severe dieting or fasting can actually make your gout worse.

Water has another beneficial effect. Drinking water generally has a pH of 7.0. At this pH level it has an alkaline effect on the body which is desirable in gout treatment since a more alkaline body is more likely to excrete uric acid. More water, other things being equal, is more likely to excrete uric acid.

Red and black cherries - fresh, frozen or canned - have been used successfully to treat gout. Drinking several tablespoons of black cherry juice daily may produce the same effect.

So how does Uricinex stack up against its own claims? According to numerous testimonials, Uricinex does provide relief, sometimes within 72 hours. This pain relief appears to be caused by liquefying the crystallized uric acid that has formed in the joints. This is the cause of pain for gout sufferers. This liquid uric acid can then be expelled through urination. So on this count, Uricinex does appear to be very legitimate.

Micronutria uses a 30-day independent clinical study as support for its effectiveness. The study claims that people who took two pills, three times a day reported positive results 97.7 % of the time. 94.2% reported that their pain was completely done. While these are impressive numbers, it is important to note that only 36 people took part in this study. This is by no means an exhaustive research into the benefits and possible side effects of Uricinex. More should be done to validate the claims made about this product.

Tea is probably better than coffee for gout sufferers. The USDA National Nutrient database shows that tea has less caffeine and that it contains far more beneficial flavonoid antioxidants than does coffee. Black or green. But to get the most antioxidants make your own teapot tea, or with a teabag, and not drink instant versions.

This quick review has outlined a few of the key points to look for when considering Uricinex as a supplement for gout pain relief. Most of its claims appear to be legitimate and the product seems to do exactly what it claims. More research should be done to backup the claims, but in general, I recommend Uricinex.

Many people also try to eliminate foods with high purine levels from their diets. Some of these foods may worsen gout by increasing your level of uric acid.

What can you count as water, apart from "pure" water? The usual includes are tea, juices and milk. Regular coffee? Probably not because of its caffeine. Caffeine, as many people know, acts as a diuretic. That is, it draws water out of cells. But decaffeinated coffee has scarcely any caffeine.

So drinking all that water isn't so hard and it is one of the gout treatments about which there is general agreement. Cheers!

Many other people - some of whom have written to Prevention magazine - have also found relief by adding cherries to their diets. Supposedly, if you already have crippling gout or if you feel a gout attack coming on, you should eat 15 to 30 cherries a day at first to get your gout under control, then 6 to 10 cherries a day after that to keep the gout away.
